No Rest For The Gardener

Not if you want a spring garden.  And where I live, spring is the season I've had the most success with cool weather crops like broccoli, cabbage, bok choi, carrots, lettuce, among many others.  (As opposed to fall where I end up battling a rainbow of aphids and caterpillars).

Today, I'm starting broccoli, three types of bok choi, and two types of lettuce seeds indoors on a heat mat.  The instant they sprout, I'll be running them out to the workshop to get them under lights.  If I don't, they'll quickly get leggy.

Usually, it takes about 4 weeks before the plants can be hardened off and transplanted outdoors.  At that time, I'll be direct sowing peas and carrots to go along with them, and thinking about starting peppers and tomatoes.

So yeah, Santa has barely made it back to the North Pole, I only just pulled the last of the herbs, and it's already time to get going on the vegetable garden!
