I planted some carrots today from seed. The cover is more to keep the cats out than for any frost protection. But our nights have been getting down into the 20's, so hopefully this will keep the soil a little warmer as well.
And, the peas I planted back in November have pretty much sat about a foot high and done nothing all winter. My Strike performed the best and is actually flowering now. It was planted in the spot that got the most sun, so it may be the location more than the variety. I backfilled in with new seeds the Feisty and Premium, and am hoping to get a decent spring pea crop out of it. I have learned that peas most definitely need to be covered from the frost. Since they also need to be protected from birds, this cover does double-duty.
